I often wondered what the 1XEV actually meant on my blackberry.
I knew it was the signal identifier, but little did I know that there are a few things that can be known by those three letters and one number.
I took a couple of web searches but I did find the answer I was looking for.
First off they are carrier specific while some use the '3G' logo my carrier, US Cellular uses the 1XEV. its a big discussion on crackberry.com about how you can mod your OS to get the '3G' log but that's another story.
First Part
1= Voice channel registration
If you don't have this, you can't talk on it
Second Part
X = 1x data speed registration
No X= No data a.k.a. you aren't gong to be able to surf the web
Third Part
EV= EVDO (high speed) data registration
Without this you cant surf the web at blazing fast speed, well okay maybe you can never surf the web at blazing fast speed from a mobile device but without EVDO you might as well send up smoke signals instead of sending that picture to twitpic
Now if you see any of the letters in lower case that means that portion of the service is NOT connected
For example: 1Xev would mean that you have voice coverage, data coverage, but NOT High speed data coverage
I Hope I helped someone out there that didn't know what all those letters meant, Until next time.
