I often wondered what the 1XEV actually meant on my blackberry.
I knew it was the signal identifier, but little did I know that there are a few things that can be known by those three letters and one number.
I took a couple of web searches but I did find the answer I was looking for.
First off they are carrier specific while some use the '3G' logo my carrier, US Cellular uses the 1XEV. its a big discussion on crackberry.com about how you can mod your OS to get the '3G' log but that's another story.
First Part
1= Voice channel registration
If you don't have this, you can't talk on it
Second Part
X = 1x data speed registration
No X= No data a.k.a. you aren't gong to be able to surf the web
Third Part
EV= EVDO (high speed) data registration
Without this you cant surf the web at blazing fast speed, well okay maybe you can never surf the web at blazing fast speed from a mobile device but without EVDO you might as well send up smoke signals instead of sending that picture to twitpic
Now if you see any of the letters in lower case that means that portion of the service is NOT connected
For example: 1Xev would mean that you have voice coverage, data coverage, but NOT High speed data coverage
I Hope I helped someone out there that didn't know what all those letters meant, Until next time.

My quick take on the Leaked 5.0 OS for the Blackberry 8330
Yesterday I found out the a leaked version of RIM's 5.0 OS for the Blackberry surfaced, and I had to try it out. I wanted to give you all a few of my quick findings
1) I love the clean look of the blackberry bootup, it took awhile but it finally did boot up,
2)No browser, at least not for me, seemed to be a service book issue, it was listed in applications and as a running application but if you went to a page it said something along the lines of contact your provider, blah blah; it was late, I was tired!
3)No ubertwitter, ubertwitter only supports upto 4.7 (unless I'm mistaken, which I have been known for before) and that is a deal breaker, I got to have my tweets :)
I may try it again this weekend when I have more time to tinker, It does have some promise. It defiantly has some Great back end features, like how you can sort the applications by 3rd party and such.
If I can figure out the browser issue and get ubertwitter running I will defiantly be running this OS!

Where I've Been, Where I want to go....
Places I've Been
Growing up with a single parent that did not drive I was not able to get to travel much. Sure living in Madison
we took day trips to Milwaukee, Chicago, and the Twin Cites, But that was that was about the extent of our traveling. Then came high school. I was a member of a dance group, The Tower Twirlers. I was able for the first time I got to go to Nashville, Tennessee.
I was quite the experience for me, never really being away from home. I got kind of a chuckle though one of the days we were there, we were at a shopping mall and I happened to ask a local if the building at the top of the hill was their state capitol building, he said, "Why yes it is." I just chuckled. It's just a small building. I'm so used to our beautiful building.
We went out there for a family reunion, at the time I didn't take the trip for what it was worth, I didn't stop and take every thing all in.
It was pre 9/11 so we were able to go down into the bowels, by the generators and everything! To this day I can't get over standing and looking up at that HUGE wall of concrete holding back all that water and the work it took to make it.
I just want to go to see the sights, the culture, Everything a Different county has to offer!
Granted this is Sydney but I would settle for anywhere in Australia!

Fast Forward about ten years, I am now going out with my now wife. How do get to know your future family to be better than a sixteen hour car ride to South Dakota.

So Fast Forward another year, Wedding bells rang for my wife and I. For our honeymoon we got to go to VEGAS BABY!
Our stay was short but for be it was still an experience I will never forget. We were there in early September and I got a chuckle out of all the people that were clearly not from the Midwest or the Southwest, the was MAYBE 85 degrees and little to no humidity. I just thought to myself, man come to Wisconsin, it will be 85 degrees, and 95 percent humidity. The walk from MGM to Treasure Island looked a LOT shorted than it was, my feet were KILLING me.
While we were in Vegas we took the Hoover Dam tour

Places I want to go
New York City
I know it may sound strange but one of the things I want to do in NYC is get a dog from a street cart vendor. I know it may sound strange but it's something I wanted to do for a long time. Its not the only reason I want to go to New York but it is the one thing I MUST do if I get to go.

Happy Anniversary Baby
My wife and I "Celebrated" our the year wedding anniversary this weekend. Unfortunately it want much of a celebration. These days money is tight and it's not like we can do what ever we want. She expressed her sadness to me that our "Anniversary Dinner" consisted of brats that I had had just taken off the grill and watching television for the evening. I told her that a co-worker had just celebrated his 34th wedding anniversary, he had asked his wife were they were going to go out to eat for the evening, McDonald's of all places! I Told my wife we were at home with each other, that's what matters. My co-worker even said it's not the meal, or were its at, its who it's with, the fact that we've made it through 10 years is huge for us (I always tease my wife that its been 10 years, 10 long years). We have been through a lot in those 10 years. We've had Family members pass, Family members join us, Loose Pets, Struggle with heath problems, But we are still together.
We may not me the "Perfect" couple, with the "Perfect" life, but it's our life and we're livin' it!

Must Have Blackberry Applications
Ok so maybe they aren't all applications but I think they are all 'Must haves' .... At least in my opinion.
1) Ubertwitter If you Twitter, and have a blackberry, then by all means go for it. I have tried others, and so far I like Ubertwitter the best the latest version now supports multiple accounts.
2) Blackberry Launchers Ok so its not an app, BUT very useful I couldn't believe how many those guys put together.
3) Garmin Mobile A fix for some us who have issues with 8330 curve's GPS not playing nice, Download the trial, sign in, hide the app, and magically GPS can find satellites
4) Capture It Need to take a screen shoot of your berry, this app does just that!
5) QuickPull Tired of having to do a battery pull, let the software do it for you, and even schedule a time to do it! Free and paid versions are available.
Things have changed.....
Last week I had to do one of the hardest things I have ever done in my life. I had to put my Beagle to sleep. It killed me. I've never had to put a pet to sleep before, sure I had guinea pigs when I was a kid but, sorry that is in NO way the same. The last couple of day were HELL, taking her to the vet, not knowing for sure what was wrong, seeing her slip the last day was like someone shoving a stake in my heart. My wife of almost 10 years said she had never seen me cry, until then. The last couple of days I was trying to keep it together and be the optimist, thinking 'She has always surprised us before, she come around', but not this time. I told my wife the night before I wanted to give her a chance to see if she could kick it, The vet had told us that 'Possibly' it was a reaction to antibiotics that she was on. I got up that morning and I knew, it was time, I could see in her eyes, she was done.
